Finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith will on Tuesday hold a press conference on the recent hacking incident that saw $101 million stolen from a Bangladesh Bank account with the New York Federal Reserve.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 11 am at the finance ministry in the secretariat, said the ministry on Monday.
Ministry sources also said Muhith is expected to clear government’s stance over the issue in the briefing.
Speaking to newsmen on Monday, Muhith said he would sit with the prime minister in this regard and then the media would be informed about it.
The cyber-theft is said to have taken place on 4 February, a Thursday that was also the start of a weekend here. But Bangladesh Bank only went public with the matter on 7 March, after it was flashed all across the domestic and international media.
Part of the money laundered from the BB account was reportedly funneled into various accounts at local banks and casinos in Manila.
However, the rest of the amount is still to be located.
