Security has been tightened across the country, especially in the capital, as the International Crimes Tribunal-1 is set to deliver its verdict on Tuesday on the war crimes case of Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) started patrolling the city streets on Monday evening as part of the security measures in the capital.
Sources at the Police Headquarters said instructions have already been given to all police units across the country to remain alert from 6:00 am on Tuesday so that no unpleasant incident can take place over the ICT verdict on the Jamaat boss.
A senior officer at the police headquarters said directives have already given to all police units to take necessary steps to maintain law and order situation at any cost on Tuesday.
In the capital, special security measures have been taken to avert any unpleasant situation over the ICT verdict.
Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (DB-PR) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said all-out security measures have been taken in the capital to foil any attempt to destabilise the law and order situation before and after the ICT’s verdict.
He said plainclothes police will remain on high alert alongside those in uniform from early hours on Tuesday. Besides, still and video cameras will be kept at a number of strategic city points to identify troublemakers.
Sources at the BGB headquarters said several BGB teams have already started patrolling the streets so that the law and order situation do not deteriorate in any way over Tuesday’s ICT verdict.
The border guards will remain alert on the city streets until further order, said a senior official at the BGB headquarters.
