The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Sunday said that the hearing of the review petition filed by death row war criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami will be heard next week.
A chamber bench headed by the chief justice SK Sinha deferred the scheduled hearing as Nizami’s counsel SM Shahjahan sought time.
SM Shahjahal sought time saying that his senior counsel Khandaker Mahbub Hosain could not present for his ‘personal difficulties’.
Earlier on Thursday the Appellate Division chamber judge sent Nizami’s review petition to the appellate division for fixing a date of hearing.
On March 29, Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Nizami filed the review petition.
On October 29, 2014, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 awarded death penalty to Nizami on four charges of war crimes, including murdering intellectuals during the Liberation War in 1971.
The 71-year-old was also awarded life imprisonment on the four other charges.
Later the SC on January 6 this year upheld his death sentence on three charges and life term imprisonment on two other charges.
