Sayma’s rape and murder suspect arrested from Cumilla
Police on Sunday arrested a young man from Cumilla on charges of raping and killing seven-year old Samia Akter Sayma in Dhaka’s Wari.
The arrestee is Haroon-or-Rashid, Wari police station officer-in-charge Azizur Rahman told this to Prothom Alo.
The OC said, “Haroon took Sayma to an under construction flat of the building and killed her there.”
He said Haroon is a cousin of Pervez who lives on the seventh floor of the building in which Sayma’s family lives on the fifth floor.
Haroon, a resident of Narayanganj, stayed with Pervez in the Banogram flat for a month. He works in a shop of Parvez.
Earlier, Azizur Rahman said to Prothom Alo, “There is a progress in the investigation. We have identified the offender. A single person killed the child.”
While talking to this correspondent in front of Wari police station on Sunday, Sayma’s father said, “We have heard that the killer of my daughter has been identified. The killer confessed to his guilt.”
Her father Abdus Salam, a businessman, said to Prothom Alo, “We found her body in an empty room on the seventh floor of an under-construction building of Dhaka’s Wari on Friday evening.”
Sayma had been raped before she was strangled to death, forensic department head of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sohel Mahmud, confirmed this to Prothom Alo on Saturday after an autopsy on her body.
Primary evidences show that the child was raped before she was strangled to death with a rope, he said.
“Evidence found in the medical test shows marks of biting on her lips as well as wounds in her private parts,” the physician added.
Sayma, a student of Silverdel School, went missing on Friday.
A case has been filed in this connection with Wari police station.
