An associate professor, Akhter Jahan, of Rajshahi University’s mass communication and journalism department was found dead inside her campus residence on Friday.

The department’s acting chairman Prof Shatil Siraj told Prothom Alo that they had found Akhter Jahan in an unconscious state after breaking open the door of her room in campus quarter Jubery Bhaban around 4:30pm.

She was then sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where physicians declared her dead, he added.

Akhter Jahan used to live in her allocated room number 303 at the Jebery Bhaban.

According to Jebery Bhaban staff, Akhtar Jahan had been traceless for the past few days.

Aktar’s son phoned other teachers of the department on Friday afternoon that they could not reach her over phone.

Getting the phone call, university authorities went to the teacher’s room and found it locked.

And then, they broke open the door and found her unconscious.

RMCH on-duty physician Mahinul Islam said, “Akhter was taken to us at 5:15pm.”

“I guess she had died before she was taken to the hospital. The cause of her death could not be known without autopsy,” he added.
