The government has no intention to give refugee status to Rohyingas who fled the military crackdown in Myanmar and entered into Bangladesh, said industry minister Amir Hossain Amu on Sunday.

The government would push back Rohingyas, he said while talking to reporters at the secretariat after presiding over a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order.

He said that 4,50,000 Rohingya entered into the country following the government decision to open the border on humanitarian ground since early this month.

‘The government is registering the Rohingyas at 12 makeshift camps,’ he said.

More camps would be set up, he added.

Amu said the government had kept police and administration on alert so that nobody could damage the religious harmony.
