She urges all parties to get united to push for CG
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday warned that if the Awami League government doest not restore the caretaker government system by October 24 they will launch such a massive movement it will not get the escape route.
“Restore the caretaker government system by October 24 to oversee the next polls,” she asked the government.
Khaleda, also the leader of the position in parliament, came up with the ultimatum while addressing a mammoth public rally at Rajshahi Madrasah ground in the afternoon.
The BNP-led 18-party alliance organised the rally aiming to mobilise public support in favour of its demand for arranging the next polls under a non-party administration.
In her 47-minute speech, Khaleda Zia also urged all political parities — big or small — to get united to force the government to hold the upcoming national election under a non-party caretaker government.
“Outside the 18-party alliance, there’re many political parties which want the election to be held the under the non-party caretaker government. I urge them all to get united to save the country,” she said.
“There’s no time to see which party is big, which one is small, who is a big leader, who is small, who is left or right. Now our main aim is to save the country through holding the polls under a non-party caretaker administration,” the BNP chief told her audience.
Khaleda Zia said the country’s independence is not safe in the hands of this worthless Awami League government.
“This government can’t even raise its voice when Bangladeshis are being killed and abducted along the border. It couldn’t do anything when Felani was killed. This is an incapable government. It can’t protect the country’s independence and sovereignty,” she said.
Criticising the government for its failure in take any move to ensure justice for Felani’s family, Khaleda Zia said had this government been in favour of the Liberation War spirit then it would not have sacrificed the county’s interest to others. “Those who are patriot sacrifice their lives for the country.”
She said drug smuggling has been allowed to continue unabated along the border aiming to destroy the youth, the country’s future leaders. The same thing had happened during Awami League’s rule just after the independence.
Khalede warned that this government will have to quit despite its all maneuverings.
Turing to the Election Commission, the BNP chief said, “The Election Commission is worthless. It has no power, Hasina started seeking vote after Eid-ul-Fitr violating the election code of conduct, but the EC is overlooking the matter,” she said adding, “They’re seeking vote but they won’t get it as the boat has developed cracks.”
She wondered when 90 percent people of the country want caretaker government system then why Awami League opposes it. “They want to hold the election staying in power to retain it as they were involved in massive corruption.”
She alleged that huge money was looted in the name of quick rental power plant but people did not get electricity. “They don’t want to quit as they will have to face public wraths after their exit.”
Regarding repression on journalists, Khaleda said 18 journalists were killed under the present government. She also accused the government of killing journalist couple Sagar-Runi as they wanted to reveal the secret information about government’s corruption.
About Nobel laureate Dr Yunus she said the Awami League government is harassing him through a false propaganda though who has brought laurel for the country. “Stop harassing Dr Yunus,” she urged the government.
Criticising Sunday’s attack on CPB and BSD rally in Sylhet by Awami League men, the BNP chairperson said Awami League has surprised people by making the attack on such small parties.
Khaleda said the government brought amendment to the constitution in such a way so they could hang on to power for ever. “But, the constitution is for the country, for its people, it can be changed when it is necessary.”
The former Prime Minister also held the government responsible for the BDR carnage in 2009. “They’ve enacted many black laws and resorted to various tricks to perpetuate its power,” she said.
Khaleda also urged the election commissioners to work as per law. “If you give registration to BNF, people won’t spare you …such a situation would be created in the country when you won’t be able to come out of your houses.”
The opposition leader assured people of building a country free from corruption, militancy and drugs if BNP is voted to power.
