Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday came down heavily on the incumbent government for clinging to power illegally and terrorising people to stay on power for a longer time.
She said it has now been imminent for the people of Bangladesh to restore democracy to take the country ahead.
She was addressing media ahead of Dhaka City Corporations’ polls at her Gulshan office in the city.
‘The government does not have any supports. They are trying to stay on power by using terrorism and force,’ she said.
She said the government does not care about security of the citizens and that ‘they do not know how to respect people.’
Khaleda said recent consecutive attacks on her convoy during city polls campaign were aimed at killing her.
‘None of the terrorists have been detained despite repeated attacks on me, she said.
The former prime minister said despite such attacks and disruption into her campaign, the Election Commission did nothing to make election campaign a level playing field.
She sought citizens support to elect BNP-backed candidates in the ensuing city corporations’ polls.
