Local BNP on Monday called a daylong hartal in the district protesting ‘vote rigging’ during the 4th phase upazila election here on Sunday.
BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam announced the shutdown at a press briefing at Jessore Press Club on Monday.
In the briefing, Tariqul Islam alleged that ballot boxes were looted from 81 polling centres in sadar upazila during the upazila elections on Sunday. He also blamed the supporters of Awami League-backed candidate Shaheen Chaklader for vote rigging.
Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary of District unit BNP, said that some ruling party men were involved in snatching and stuffing ballot boxes on Saturday night.
