President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday urged the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to reopen its labour market for Bangladeshi workers, particularly for skilled and semi-skilled ones.
The President made the call when newly appointed UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Saeed Bin Hajar Al-Shehi presented his credentials to him at Bangabhaban.
Welcoming the new envoy to Bangabhaban, the President expressed satisfaction over the existing excellent bilateral relations between the two countries and hoped that it would be further expanded and consolidated in the days to come.
During the meeting, Hamid urged the UAE ambassador to convince his government to make smooth the process of issuance of visas to Bangladeshi visa seekers, especially for officials and businessmen, with minimum time.
Abdul Hamid observed that the UAE can establish international standard pharmaceutical industries in Bangladesh under joint venture with Bangladeshi companies.
He thanked the UAE government for employing nearly one million Bangladeshi workers in its various sectors and mentioned that Bangladeshi workers are playing an important role in the wellbeing of both the nations.
The new ambassador assured the President that he would try to convince his government on the issues discussed.
He also sought cooperation from the President and said he would try his level best for further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Earlier on his arrival at Bangabhaban, Dr Saeed Bin Hajar Al-Shehi was given a guard of honour by a contingent the President’s Guard Regiment.
