India today (September 5, 2022) rolled out the red carpet to welcome Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after she reached in New Delhi on a four-day visit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

The visit is seen significant as the two countries are likely to unveil a slew of measures to boost cooperation in areas of trade, energy, connectivity and river water sharing and discuss regional stability.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was received at Palam Air Force Station, the VVIP airport, by India’s Minister of State for Railways Darshana V Jardosh and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Imran, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

In the wake of the global economic headwinds set off by Russia-Ukraine war and Covid-19 pandemic, Hasina’s visit to India holds significance as the two neighboring countries seek enhanced cooperation to overcome the challenges and ensure stability in south Asia where Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan are witnessing turmoil.

Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have met 12 times since their first interaction in Dhaka in 2015, a year after Modi came to power.
