Police have formally charged 13 people in court with beating 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajan to death in Sylhet’s Kumargaon last month.
Detective Branch Inspector Suranjit Talukder submitted the chargesheet at the First Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Sunday afternoon, said Sylhet Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahmat Ullah.
The accused are Kamrul Islam, his brothers Ali Haider and Muhit Alam, Muhit’s wife Lipi Begum and brother-in-law Islami Hossain, Dulal Mia, local watchman Moyna Mia, Ruhul Amin, Taj Uddin Ahmed Badal, Nur Mia, Firoz Mia, Ajmat Ullah and Ayaj Ali.
Apart from Kamrul, several of them are already behind bars, Rahmat Ullah said.
He had fled to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, where police caught him after the Bangladesh embassy their sought help.
Kamrul’s repatriation process was complete, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said recently.
On July 8, Rajan was branded a ‘thief’ and brutally tortured to Death with a metal rod at Kumargaon by several youths.
The murderers later posted the video of him being beaten on the internet, triggering outcry across Bangladesh.
