The main opposition BNP on Monday accused the government of having a hand in the gruesome murder of its Dhaka city unit leader Rafiqul Islam Majumder.
‘The government has committed the murder in a planned way. We believe Rab and police were cent percent involved in Rafiqul killing. If they deny it, then they’ll have to find out who have killed him?” said BNP spokesman Tariqul Islam.
He brought the allegation while talking to reporters after attending the first namaz-e-janaza of Rafiqul held in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the morning.
Members of Rab allegedly picked up Rafiqul, general secretary of BNP Dhaka City Corporation Ward No-56 unit, from his in-laws’ house at Anandanagar village in Shailakupa upazila of Jhenidah on Saturday evening.
Later, his handcuffed body was found near a police outpost at Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia early Sunday.
Depicting a dismal law and order situation, Tariqul said journalist couple Sagar-Runi was killed inside their house while Bishwajit Das, a pedestrian, was killed on the street. “There’s no security of public life …there has been no trial of any of the murder incidents and the killers are on the prowl.”
He called upon all to get united against the state-sponsored terrorism, killing, torture and repression, and to ensure the fall of this government.
Earlier, Rafiqul’s body was brought in front of BNP’s Nayaplatan central office around 11:00am for the janaza.
Later, Rafiqul’s body was taken to his ancestral home at Chandipur village under Shahrasti upazila in Chandpur for burial.
