Use of EVMs in DCC polls will help make elections credible, he said
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said democracy has been established in Bangladesh but there is no democracy in BNP.
“There is no democracy in BNP, so how will the party establish democracy in the country?” he asked while responding to a query of a reporter at Comilla Circuit House on Wednesday, reports BSS.
About the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) polls, Quader said the EVM is well-recognized modern technology, which can help make elections free, fair and credible.
In the past, BNP candidates won the elections where the EVMs were used, he said.
Assuring that the government would provide all-out support to the Election Commission (EC) in holding the upcoming DCC polls, Obaidul Quader said: “There is no problem in using EVMs in polls. Election would be free, fair and credible with the use of EVMs as it was in the past.”
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam, Awami, League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Deputy Commissioner of Comilla district Md Abul Fazal Mir and Police Super Syed Nurul Islam were, among others, present.
