Thinking alternative to polls to put govt in trouble, he says
Amid the deepening uncertainty over the next polls, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Thursday said the election will be held undoubtedly and that is under a non-party administration.
“The people of the county are in doubt whether there will be any election at all. But I want to say the election will be held on Bangladesh’s soil and it’ll be under a non-party caretaker government,” he said.
Moudud came up with his resolve while addressing a sit-in arranged by Diganta Television at the Jatiya Press Club demanding that the ban on its transmission be withdrawn.
Mentioning that there is no alternative to the polls, Moudud urged the government to arrange the election under a non-party administration to ensure the participation of all parties.
He also warned that the ruling party will be the worst suffer and its existence in the mainstream politics will be at stake if the government tries to resort to any other alternative to election.
Moudud said the government is dreaming of returning to power against people’s will but it will not be possible. “Every evil design will be crushed through people’s movement.”
“People in the elections to five city corporations have sent out a strong message that they want to get rid of this regime. They have given a verdict against the government’s failures, repression and misrule,” he observed.
Moudud, also a former law minister, termed the present regime worst than fascist one and alleged that it is now trying to gag the media to hide its failures.
“When a democratic government turns autocratic it sets various bad instances. This regime also set many bad instances over the last four years halting all democratic practices.”
BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah, Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa) president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, Kalyan Party chairman Maj Gen (retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Islami Oikya Jote Chairman Abdul Latif Nejami and Jatiya Press Club general secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed, among others, spoke at the programme.
