Qatar Airways Dhaka office gutted

Fire fighters said the fire broke out at the Taj Casilina Apartments around 10pm and engulfed the entire top floor of the block.

However, an airline official said it would not hamper their operations since the fifth floor housed only its management office.

“Our reservation office is on the first floor,” Monirul Islam at the airway’s office at the Shahjalal International Airport said, speaking to bdnews24.com.

Apart from the Qatar Airways, the floor housed several offices including Thai Visa Application Centre and a tours and travel agency.

However, no-one was injured.

Fire Brigade control room’s on-duty fireman Jibon Mia said two security guards inside the building managed to come out safely.

He said it took one and a half hours for four fire-fighting units from Tejgaon and Baridhara stations to douse the flames.

They suspected the fire originated from an electrical short-circuits.

Damages could not be ascertained immediately.

Qatar Airways currently offers 13 flights between Doha and Dhaka on a weekly basis.

It has a modern fleet of 128 aircraft to 133 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and The Americas.
