A top leader of the ruling Awami League said Thursday that the ongoing anti-government protest would not bring any solution to the present political crisis of the country.
“There is no use in protesting. It will not bring any solution,” Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said after paying tribute to the August 15 martyred at the Banani Graveyard, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
Islam, also LGRD and Cooperatives minister, made the comment in the wake of the oppositions’ threat to strengthen their anti-government movement.
He also said that his party is adamant about building Bangladesh a secular country imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War.
“We have to turn the grief of 15th August into power,” said the AL leader.
When asked to comment on the issue that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not celebrate her birthday on August 15 this year, Ashraf said: “They still have time. Let us see.”
Awami League central leaders Tofail Ahmed, Amir Hossain Amu and several other members of the cabinet among others present at Banani Graveyard to pay their tributes to the August 15 martyrs.
