Protesters block Dhaka roads protesting at killings, oppression

In protest against recent nationwide killings, arrests, and oppression students and people from all walks of life took position in different areas in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Friday.

Protesters blocked Science Lab intersection at about 1:00pm and staged a demonstration protesting at the recent killings and demanding justice.

They gathered there after Juma prayers as per their scheduled programme-prayers and mass procession.

A large number of police were seen deployed in the area with prison vans, reports UNB photographer from the spot.

New Age staff correspondent reported that students block Shahbagh crossing on Friday afternoon.

Protesters blocked the crossing at about 2:00pm, New Market police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam said.

Clashes broke out between police and protesters at in front of Milestone School and College in Uttara. Police fired gunshots at protesters.

The Anti-Discrimination Students’ Movement on Thursday announced a nationwide prayers and mass procession for Friday to press home their 9-point demand.

The programme was announced in a press release sent by Abdul Kader, a coordinator of the movement.

‘The campaign is being organised in memory of all those who were martyred, injured, arrested, or participated in the movement,’ it reads.
