A case under Digital Security Act was lodged in Rangpur today (August 24, 2022) against online news portal Netra News and one person named Hasinur Rahman for allegedly circulating propaganda against the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
Advocate Ilias Ahmed, vice-president of Rangpur district unit of Awami League, lodged the case with Rangpur Cyber Tribunal, reports our Rangpur correspondent citing the plaintiff.
Taking the case into cognizance, Judge Dr Abdul Majid of the tribunal directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the case, Ilias Ahmed said.
Talking to The Daily Star, the plaintiff said, “A post titled ‘Aainar Ghore Bondi DGFI-er bondishala’ published by Netra News on their Facebook page came to my notice recently. Netra News published untrue, defamatory, and instigating video with post, which went viral in social media.”
“The anti-state video is spreading propaganda against the country’s government and law enforcers and has tarnished the nation’s image, while causing damage worth Tk 50 thousand crore,” he added.
