LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam on Monday said in Parliament that the government has taken a project to install solar lights in eight city corporations, including Dhaka North City Corporation.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is financing the project, ‘Solar Street Lighting Programme in City Corporations (SSLPCC)’ being supervised by the Power Development Board (PDB), the minister said responding to a starred question from Amina Ahmed (Women Seat-23).
He also said some 122 solar lights have been installed on 61 electric poles stretching over 1.8 kilometers roads from Kakrail Mosque to Notredame College. “People are already getting the benefit of that.”
Syed Ashraful also said another project is underway to bring 5 kilometers of roads of Dhaka South City Corporation under solar light system.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak replied to questions on behalf of Syed ashraful Islam as the minister was not present in the House.
