Probe body wants to quiz Nur in India

The administrative probe committee formed to investigate Narayanganj seven murders under a directive of the High Court wants to quiz the main accused of the case Nur Hossain before submitting its report to the court.

According to the directive of the court, the probe committee led by Public Administration Ministry’s Additional Secretary Shahjahan Ali Mollah must have to submit its report to the court by next July 9.

The committee, however, thinks that it would not be possible for the government to bring Nur Hossain back home from India where he was detained for illegal entry to to the country.

Shahjahan Ali Mollah, chief of the seven-member probe committee told reporters at his ministry office yesterday.

“We will wait for the government’s initiative to bring him back in the country to quiz him, otherwise we can do this by going to India,” he said.

Nur Hossain and his aides Obaidur Rahman and Sumon Khan were arrested from a house from near Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport of Kolkata. They were taken on an eight-day remand.

Narayanganj City Corporation’s panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker along with five others were abducted on April 27 from the Narayanganj court area.

Their dead bodies were found in the Sitalakkhya River after three days of their abduction.

The seven-member administrative probe body was constituted on May 7 following an instruction of the High Court.

The probe body has already quizzed the accused available, talked to the family members and witnesses to find out reasons behind the incident.

It has already submitted a primary progress report to the court.
