Pro-AL panel sweeps Dhaka Bar Association polls

Awami League-backed lawyers’ panel has won a landslide victory in the Dhaka Bar Association elections for the 2019-20 session, bagging 18 posts out of 27.
The AL-backed White panel’s Gazi Shah Alam has been elected as the president and Md Asaduzzaman Khan as general secretary.
The pro-BNP/Jamaat Blue panel however managed to bag the remaining nine posts.
Mokhlesur Rahman Baal, chief election commissioner of the bar association, announced the results of the two-day elections held on February 27 and March 7, early Saturday.
Of the 12 secretary-level posts, the White panel captured 9 leaving 3 for maybes.
The winning candidates from the White panel are: Md Jahangir Hossain Dulal as vice-president, Jahangir Alam Molla as senior assistant general secretary, Md Omar Faruk Asif as assistant general secretary, Md Jahidul Islam Kadir as office secretary, Humayun Khandakar Tagar as social welfare secretary and Md Ujjal Mia as sports affairs secretary.
From the Blue panel, Afroza Begum Shelley has been elected as senior vice-president, Abu Bakar Siddiqui as treasurer and Md Shafiqul Islam as social welfare affairs secretary.
Among the 15 members’ posts, White panel bagged 9 and Blue panel got 6.
