The condition of President Zillur Rahman, who was undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital, had improved slightly, his press secretary said yesterday.
“His condition is better now than what it was in Dhaka,” AKM Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan told BSS quoting a message received here from Singapore in the afternoon.
Bhuiyan said the president is undergoing treatment under close observation of specialised physicians at Intensive Care Unit of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
Family members of the president and employees of the President’s Office urged the countrymen to pray for his early recovery, he added.
On Monday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the countrymen to pray for early recovery of President Zillur Rahman. Special prayers were offered in all mosques after Magrib and in other places of worship.
Zillur’s son Nazmul Hassan Papan, who is attending to the president, told BSS over the phone on Monday night that the president was suffering from severe lung infection.
Doctors began removing water from his lungs as his condition stabilised a little, said Papan, also a ruling Awami League lawmaker.
Zillur, 85, was admitted to the hospital on Monday morning as suggested by physicians of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka for better treatment.
Specialists of different departments of Mount Elizabeth started the president’s treatment immediately after his arrival by an air ambulance.
Zillur, who celebrated his 85th birthday on Saturday, assumed office in 2009.
