President reaches South Africa to pay respects to Mandela

 

President Abdul Hamid reached Johannesburg of South Africa on Monday night (local time) to pay homage to former South African President and anti-apartheid hero Nelson Mandela on behalf of himself and the people of Bangladesh.

 

On his arrival at the airport at 11:45pm by a special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, South African Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane and Bangladesh High Commissioner to South Africa Md Touhid Hossain received the President, his Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told UNB from South Africa over phone on Tuesday.

 

President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to pay his last respects to the legendary leader along with other heads of the state and the government at a memorial service at a stadium in Johannesburg later Tuesday.

 

The President is expected to return home on December 12.

 

The President left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by the special flight of the national flag carrier on Monday afternoon.
