Pro-hartal elements torched six vehicles in separate places of the city on Monday, ahead of the BNP-led 18-party’s Tuesday’s daylong countrywide shutdown.
Fire Service sources said two private cars and a microbus of ATN News were set afire by the hartal supporters near BNP’s Nayapaltan central office around 12:35 pm.
Witnesses said another two vehicles — one of Massranga Television and another of Boishakhi Television — were vandalised in the area at that time apart from explosions of several crude bomb blasts.
Around 12:25pm, a BRTC bus set ablaze by pro-hartal activists in front of Dhaka University’s Shahidullah Hall.
Besides, a staff bus of Titas Gas was set afire by the pickets in front of BGMEA building at Karwanbazar at 3:40 pm.
Meanwhile, hartal supporters set fire to a bus at Tibbet intersection in Tejgaon area at 4:26 pm.
The opposition alliance called the shutdown demanding the release of its leaders and workers arrested on March 11.
