West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has reaffirmed that realistic initiatives are being taken to resolve the long-pending issue over exchange of enclaves between Bangladesh and India soon.
Mamata who visited Dhaka recently said this when Bangladesh land minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif met her in Kolkata on April 13, said a PID handout on Thursday mentioning that there has been a ‘fruitful’ discussion between the two during the hour-long meeting reports United News of Bangladesh.
She assured the Bangladesh land minister of resolving the problems related to exchanging enclaves.
Mamata thanked the prime minister Sheikh Hasina for the hospitality she received during her Bangladesh visit.
The West Bengal chief minister conveyed the Bangladesh minister that she has full support to Bangladesh’s initiative to make Bangla an official language in the United Nations.
In reply to questions from journalists in Kolkata, the Land Minister said Bangladesh does not patronise terrorists and terrorism. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a strong position against militancy and terrorism, he added.
The land minister also said the killers of blogger Avijit Roy will soon be booked and be punished.
