BNP joint general secretary Salauddin Ahmed on Monday hoped that the Prime Minister will take steps to postpone the farcical election and resign forthwith showing respect for the public opinion.
“Otherwise, the fascist government will be toppled through a mass movement,” he said in a statement from an undisclosed location.
The BNP leader said they have declared the next course of action programme as the government is yet to accept the people’s legitimate demand.
Claiming that the 90 percent people of the country want the polls under a non-party government, Salauddin said the Prime Minister turned the country’s constitution into Awami League manifesto through the 15th amendment to it.
“The programme will be withdrawn immediately if the government accepts our demand,” Salauddin said.
The nation wants the government to stop countrywide mass killing, arrest and oppression, he added.
He claimed that three people were killed and 733 others were injured in clashes with the law enforcers and ruling party men across the country during the third day of the blockade programme.
Besides, around 319 opposition leaders and activists were arrested while 2,700 implicated in ‘false’ cases, Salauddin said.
