Police have baton-charged activists of the Ganajagaran Mancha and another group when both tried holding rallies at Dhaka’s Shahbagh.
Seven persons, including five Mancha activists, were detained from there on Friday afternoon.
A key Mancha organiser, Lucky Akter, and another person were injured in the police action.
Both have been hospitalised.
Dhaka police’s Ramna zone Assistant Commissioner Shibli Noman said neither group had permission to hold rallies at Shahbagh.
“We evicted them as they did not have permission for a rally,” he told bdnews24.com, adding that several people have been detained.
bdnews24.com’s Suliman Niloy, who was on the spot, said five Mancha activists and two of the ‘Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command’ had been held.
On Thursday, several Mancha activists had come under attack at Shahbagh.
The secular platform, pressing for the maximum penalty for convicted war criminals, called a rally on Friday to protest the incident.
The ‘Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command’ announced a counter rally at Shahbagh around the same time, claiming they had been attacked by the Mancha activists on Thursday.
