Amid recoveries of Yaba consignments, police in Dhaka have arrested four people with a device for manufacturing the drug.
Police said the device along with 55,000 Yaba tablets were found on Sunday after searching a Pajero SUV at Dhaka’s Khilgaon.
The four arrested in connection with the recovery are Abdullah Jubayer, 28, Ayub Ali, 45, Shamsul Alam, 24 and Mostakin Hossain Sunny.
“The SUV coming from Teknaf, which carried the Yaba consignment and the device, was stopped by police around 7.30pm Sunday,” said Detective Branch Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Hossain Matubbar.
He said interrogations revealed that the four planned to manufacture Yaba in Dhaka as carrying it from Teknaf was increasingly getting risky.
Police suspect Jubayer as the leader of this ring.
“The SUV belongs to him. He owns two luxurious apartments in Gulshan,” Matubbar told a media briefing on Monday.
Quoting information gleaned from the arrestees, he said that Jubayer used luxurious cars to bring in Yaba to evade police suspicion.
He used to bring in four to five consignments every month, each time at least 50,000 pieces of Yaba, added the police official.
“Jubayer planned to manufacture Yaba in Dhaka as it was being increasingly risky to bring it in (from Teknaf),” said Matubbar.
According to him, the device might be worth Tk 2 million, which can manufacture up to 15,000 pieces of Yaba per hour.
“Police have information that seven to eight rings in the border area are involved in Yaba trading.
“Some of them may have planned to make it in Bangladesh,” said Matubbar claiming the detainees were part of such drug rings.
