Police detained the former Election Commission secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed in Chattogram.
Helal Uddin was detained in the Tulatali area of Khulshi in city around 5:30pm on Wednesday, said Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Chattogram Kotwali Police Station.
OC Fazlul Quader Chowdhury said that on a tip-off, former Election Commission secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed was detained. He is currently in police custody, and further details will be provided later.
Earlier, on September 18, in a Chattogram court, a case was filed against Helal Uddin Ahmed, former Chief Election Commissioners Kazi Raqibuddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda, Kazi Habibul Awal, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and others.
The case was initiated by Ekramul Karim, former general secretary of the Chattogram city BNP, alleging fraud and sedition in the elections.
Before his retirement, Helal Uddin Ahmed served as a senior secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and held the position of Election Commission secretary.
Following his retirement, he was appointed as a member of the Bangladesh Public Service
Commission on a contractual basis by the Awami League government toppled by the student-led mass uprising on August 5.
