PM vows to carry on war crimes trial

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurates the overdue council of Dhaka City unit of Awami League on Thursday at historic Suhrawardi Udyan.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday reiterated that the trial of war criminals will continue and they would get appropriate punishment no maters what the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami resort to violence to protect them.

The premier urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to give up their efforts to save the war criminals.

“Don’t kill people. Try to understand what people want,” said Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, while inaugurating the overdue council of Dhaka City unit of her party at historic Suhrawardi Udyan.

The council, which has been held after almost 10 years, was supposed to elect new leadership of the city AL, but there was no election session.

The AL chief directed the city leaders to hold councils of all thana, union and ward units immediately.

She also directed them to remain ready for any kind of situation in the coming days centring the opposition’s movements to foil the war crimes trial.

Hasina mentioned that Khaleda has taken to the street movements in the month of victory to protect the war criminals.
