Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday urged Greece to invest in Bangladesh, availing of congenial investment facilities.
The prime minister also requested her Greece counterpart for taking more steps for ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates living in his country.
The premier made the request during a meeting with Greece Prime Minister Antinios Samaras on the sidelines of the 10th ASEM summit at the Bangladesh meeting room of Milan Congress on Thursday noon (Milan time), according to a message received in Dhaka.
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque briefed reporters after the meeting, and said both leaders had talks in a very warm and cordial atmosphere.
Hasina also underscored the importance of enhancing trade and commerce with Greece for the mutual benefits of the two countries.
She recalled with gratitude that Greece was one of the European countries that had recognised independent Bangladesh in 1972.
Listing various initiatives against terrorism and militancy, the prime minister said her government has been maintaining a zero tolerance policy over this issue.
Highlighting various success stories of her government in various sectors, Hasina said Bangladesh has been able to maintain over 6% growth for the last couple of years for various pragmatic steps to this end.
The Greece Prime Minister at the meeting congratulated Sheikh Hasina for being elected as Bagladesh Prime Minister for the third time following the January-5 election, saying Bangladesh is marching ahead under Hasina’s dynamic leadership.
Antinios C. Samaras also said he felt proud of having talks with the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and highly appreciated her government for its role against terrorism and militancy.
In this regard, the two Prime Ministers agreed to work together with the world community against terrorism and militancy.
They also laid emphasis on working together for the development of Asia and Europe, the foreign secretary said.
During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina invited the Greece prime minister to visit Bangladesh.
Accepting the invitation, Samaras thanked Sheikh Hasina and also invited her to visit Greece at a convenient time.
