PM to run law, home ministries

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will now run four ministries including home and law as she distributed the portfolios of 21 ministers and seven state ministers today.

In addition to her charges of defence and public administration ministers, the premier today took the charges of home and law.

Abul Hasan Mahamood Ali, who was the minister for disaster management and relief, has replaced Dipu Moni and State Minister for Home Shamsul Hoque Tuku has retained his position to assist the prime minister with her additional work load.

Of the newly inducted cabinet members, Awami League stalwart Amir Hossain Amu got the ministries of land and disaster management and relief while Tofail Ahmed industries and housing and public works.

Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon was given the charges of Post and Telecommunication ministry.

Jatiya Party leader Anisul Islam Mahmud got the portfolios of water resources ministry while Ruhul Amin Hawlader civil aviation and tourism ministry and his party colleague Rawshan Ershad the health and family welfare ministry.

State ministers Mujibul Haque Chunnu and Salma Islam will lead the youth and sports ministry and women and children affairs ministry respectively.

Meanwhile, former law minister Shafique Ahmed and former industries minister Dilip Barua have been appointed advisers to the premier.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has no additional duties but Agricultural Minister Matia Chowdhury will also run the fisheries ministry and Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will also run primary and mass education ministry as well.

Hasanul Haq Inu got the cultural affairs ministry in addition to information ministry which he has been running.

Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddique, Planning Minister AK Khandker, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, Commerce Minister GM Quader and Forest Minister Hasan Mahmud kept their jobs without additional duties.
