PM rules out imposing state of emergency

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday ruled out any possibility of imposing state of emergency amid the current political impasse.

‘Why state of emergency should be imposed? No situation has been arisen in the country to impose state of emergency. Law enforcers are there. They  taking required steps to contain violence. People are with us,’ Sheikh Hasina told parliament in response to a supplementary question from opposition chief whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury in the afternoon during the question hour for the prime minister.
Responding to Nasima Ferdousi, the prime minister the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-Jamaat-e-Islami axis was killing innocent people by blasting firebombs since the first week of January.
‘The government is committed to ensure safety of the lives and properties of people. Actions against saboteurs have been ordered. People involved in subversion and their abettors have been asked to be brought to book. Police and intelligence have been instructed to arrest planners and patrons of saboteurs and joint drives of police, RAB and BGB are on,’ said the prime minister.
She also said the intelligence were helping police by tracing the whereabouts of saboteurs.
The prime minister said the government has taken steps for ensuring proper medicare for for the victims of acts of sabotage and helping their families.
