Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the law enforcement agencies for immediate arrest of the miscreants linked with the killing of Fulgazi Upazila Parishad Chairman and Awami League Leader Ekramul Haque.

She said Ekram was a young popular Awami League leader, who wanted to make Fulgazi Upazila a modern one, reported BSS.

Anti-liberation elements and evil forces who want to destroy the organizational base of Awami League through killing and terrorism might have link with the brutal killing, she said.

The PM also urged the people of Fulgazi and countrymen to raise their voice against “such barbaric annihilation of a popular political leader and conspiracy.”

She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul of Ekram and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

The government would take all measures to give appropriate punishment to the killers, she assured.

Earlier in the day, the chairman had been shot and burnt to death as some unidentified miscreants set fire to his micro-bus in the Academy area of Feni town.

Police said miscreants first shot at the micro-bus of Ekramul Haq and then torched it with Ekramul inside, leaving him dead on the spot and four others injured.

Ekramul, 47, was the ruling Awami League-backed Upazila Chairman of Fulgazi, Feni.

He was also president of Awami League, Fulgazi Upazlia unit.
