PM on two-day official visit to Myanmar to attend third BIMSTEC Summit
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has held courtesy meetings with Myanmar President Thein Sien and Opposition Leader and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Rule of Law and Tranquillity Aung San Suu Kyi.
She held a bilateral meeting with Myanmar President Thein Sien at the presidential palace in the afternoon, hours after her arrival in the country, BSS reported.
Later, the prime minister met Aung San Suu Kyi at her parliament office where Hasina introduced her entourage and family members to Suu Kyi.
Sheikh Hasina is also scheduled to meet Speaker of Myanmar Parliament Shwe Mann later in the day.
The prime minister is on a two-day official visit to Myanmar to attend the third BIMSTEC Summit.
The summit of the seven-nation regional body of South Asia and South East Asia will be held at the Myanmar International Conference Centre in Myanmar capital of Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.
The BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) groups Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
