Bangladesh has expressed its concern at the recent rise in number of killings of Bangladesh nationals at the Bangladesh-India border.
Both sides also agreed to expedite the process of repatriation of fishermen apprehended by the law enforcing agencies for unintentionally crossing the maritime borders.
The issues came up at the 16th round of Home Secretary Level Talks between Bangladesh and India that ended on Tuesday in New Delhi, according to Foreign Ministry here.
The Bangladesh side was led by Senior Secretary Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque Khan while the Indian side was led by Union Home Secretary L.C. Goyal.
During the meeting the two sides reviewed the entire range of security issues including terrorism, insurgency, smuggling and trafficking.
The Indian side thanked the Bangladesh side for comprehensively addressing their security concerns and assured their full cooperation to minimize the security threats in the region.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen the border management system through enhanced joint patrols and regular meetings at local levels.
Earlier in the day the Bangladesh Home Secretary paid a courtesy call on the Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh at his office.
In the meeting the Indian Home Minister appreciated the works of the Joint Working Group on security and reiterated the commitment of the Government of India in further strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
