Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said country’s people will give a lesson to the public representatives who behave like zeminders (landlords) forgetting public interests.
“In many cases, public representatives put obstacles in the way of demolishing illegal roadside structures and stopping plying of illegal vehicles on the national highways. They behave as if they were zeminders of different states. However, people will punish them in the next general election,” he said.
The minister was taking to reporters while visiting the site of a flyover on four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Mahipal intersection in Sadar upazila in the morning.
Obaidul Quader also said the atmosphere and the results of Saturday’s polls to four city corporations will influence the next general election.
He also said the tender for constructing the 560-metre-long flyover at Mahipal will be invited within one month.
Deputy Commissioner Humayun Kabir, Police Super Paritosh Ghosh and district Awami League president Abdur Rahman, were among others, present.
