Only the Awami League governs Bangladesh with sincerity, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has insisted.
Hasina was speaking to her party’s grassroot leaders in a discussion on Friday to decide nomination of candidates for the parliamentary elections.
“No one except the Awami League has the sincerity to work for the good of the people,” added the party President.
“That is why people will vote for the Awami League. They will give us their support if they want to live and sleep in peace, educate to establish their children and have enough to be able to fill their stomach.”
She recalled the grenade attack on an Awami League rally on Aug 21, 2004 and the synchronised bombings that swept through the nation on Aug 17 the following year during the tenure of the past BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami coalition government.
“We can provide the people with better living standards. The BNP knows only how to do corruption, loot and launder money”, said the Prime Minister about the main opposition.
“Bangladesh stands to again lose its place in the world under their governance.”
She claimed that businesspersons had to pay up thrice during the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami coalition government.
“Once for her (Khaleda Zia) and twice for her two sons without which no one could continue to do their business.”
Hasina said the BNP was good at securing individual interests and were massively negligent of the people’s needs.
“The BNP does not care to serve the people or even want anything good for them, they dont care for such things. They also look after individual interests.”
Hasina described the government’s achievements saying, “We are working to become a confident independent nation, something only the Awami League can deliver. This is the party that led the country toward liberation.”
“We feel for the country because we were the ones behind its formation. Those who just land out of nowhere feel nothing for it,” said Hasina.
She urged everyone to not give in to false propaganda on religion, “If anyone works for Islam, it is us. We are the ones who set up an Arabic Islamic University.”
“She (Khaleda Zia) just keeps lying. She wants to confuse people. She has deployed some women who are also spreading false propaganda.”
The Awami League President was in discussion with leaders from Comilla (north), Comilla (south), Chittagong (south), Chittagong (metropolitan), Pabna, Rangpur (metropolitan).
