‘Oishee cannot be the killer’

Police, after interrogating her, are almost certain about her role in the killings but Rubel thinks there might be another ‘mystery‘ behind the gruesome double murder.

He told bdnews24.com on Monday, “This is very mysterious. How can a child so young murder her parents in this way? There must be something else behind this.”

The couple’s blood stained bodies were found in a locked bathroom in their Chamelibagh residence on Friday. The post-mortem report stated that they died of the stab wounds inflicted by multiple killers, who, from indications, were believed to be amateurs.

Oishee, who was seen leaving the house a day before the bodies of her parents were found, turned herself in at the Paltan Police Station on Saturday.

She was produced in court the following day and was put in five days’ police remand.

Her school records show she is still below 18, and the decision to put a minor in police custody is already being questioned.

National Human Rights Commission Chairman Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com that the arrest of a minor without informing the District Probationary Officer violated the law.

When asked, Oishee’s uncle said she was born in Khulna in 1995. “That is as far as I remember.”

Oxford International School authorities, however, said their records showed her date of birth was Aug 17, 1996.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam, after questioning her on the first day of her custody, told reporters that the eldest daughter of the slain couple was directly involved in her parents’ murder.

Police are yet to pinpoint the motive but the Joint Commissioner claimed Oishee’s drug addiction could be a factor.

When asked about Oishee’s nature, her uncle said: “Look, how bad can a kid be?”

SB Inspector Mahfuz Rahman and his wife used to live with their two children and a household help.

According to police, Oishee left their house on Thursday with her seven-year old brother. She sent her brother back to a neighbour’s house the next day but she herself did not return.

The younger brother was not with his uncles.

He was not at his maternal aunt’s house either, Md Robiul, a maternal relative told bdnews24.com.

But Detective officer Monirul said he was in the safe hands of a relative.

Rubel said he is ready to take full responsibility of his nephew.

“Why only him, Oishee too is our blood, our children.”

But he added that these matters had not yet been fully discussed in the family.

Police arrested the household help following Oishee’s surrender. Oishee’s friend Mizanur Rahman Rony has also been remanded in police custody.

Monirul said after questioning the three that sleeping pills had been mixed with coffee to drug Mahfuz and Swapna before they were killed.

Police said interrogation was on to find out who else was involved.

  1. Even before completion of a thorough investigation , comments like “Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam, after questioning her on the first day of her custody, told reporters that the eldest daughter of the slain couple was directly involved in her parents’ murder.”
This is most stupidest comment I ever heard from any Police department.
The whole thing is still shrouded with mystery and doesn’t sound as simple as “Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam’s comment.
