Terming BNP’s threat for waging a movement after Eid ‘nothing but rhetoric’, Communications Minister Obidaul Quader on Monday said there is nothing to be worried about it.
“BNP’s threat for launching a movement will be of no use. The party which can’t collect even 500 people for bringing out a procession, how come they will initiate a movement?” he said.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters during a visit to an under-construction bridge over the Madhumati River at Patgati after placing wreaths at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara marking the 65th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League.
Criticising BNP for its hollow movement threat after Eid, Obaidul Quader said BNP has no organisational capacity for carrying out a movement. “BNP issues threat before every Eid to launch a movement after it. Many Eids passed off but we didn’t see them to do so.”
He expressed the hope that the new bridge, ‘Sheikh Lutfar Rahman Bridge’, will be opened to public by October this year.
Pointing at his party leaders and activists, the minister said it is time for self-assessment and criticism so that the party doesn’t end up in government.
Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, additional chief engineer of the Roads and Highways Department and Chowdhury Emdadul Haq, general secretary of district Awami League, were, among others, present.
