Detective Branch of police arrested Ali Mohammad, a close of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the Narayanganj seven-murder case, in Brahmanbaria in the early hours of yesterday.

Ali was arrested from Aulia Bazar area at Brambanbaria’s Akhaura upazila, said Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Narayanganj.

He was one of Nur’s three close aides. His name came up during the confessional statements of those arrested, said Mamun, who is also investigating the sensational case.

Ali had gone into hiding soon after the seven-murder took place. His father’s name is Akbar Ali. They are from Shimrail at Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj.

He was allegedly the cashier of Nur’s illegally earned money. Moreover, he abetted his boss in dealings of drugs, extortion, murder, kidnap and other crimes.

There were 11 arms licenses for Nur and his aides. Narayanganj administration repealed them soon after Nur’s name appeared in the case. One of the shotguns was in possession of Ali.

Ali may be placed before a senior judicial magistrate’s court today, said sources in police, for taking him on remand.
