Four on-duty policemen have beaten up an inspector of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in the Jatrabari area of the capital on Friday.
The incident, which took place early in the morning, comes five days after a Bangladesh Bank official was allegedly beaten up and threatened with death by Mohammadpur police station Sub-Inspector Masud Sikder.
The injured city employee, Bikash Chandra Das, 40, has been admitted to the DhakaMedical College Hospital.
DSCC cleaner Chandan Das, who witnessed the incident and took Bikash to hospital told the Dhaka Tribune that four policemen signaled Bikash in Dholaipar area while he was on his way to work on his motorcycle around 5am Friday.
“As the policemen were in plainclothes, Bikash did not stop his motorcycle thinking them to be hijackers. Sub-Inspector Arshad Hossain Akash then struck Bikash on his neck from behind. Akash and three other policemen then started beating him mercilessly,” Chandan said.
Bikash’s younger brother Sujit Chandra Das said his brother received injuries to his head, hands and legs.
Jatrabari police station Officer-in-Charge Abani Shangkar Pal said departmental action would be taken against the policemen after an investigation is conducted.
He said he went to the spot and saw Bikash at the DMCH.
