‘Nothing will happen on Oct 25’

“The opposition can issue as many ultimatums as it wants, but nothing will happen on Oct 25”, he said speaking at a discussion at Awami League’s central headquarters on Wednesday.

The 19th parliament session will conclude on Oct 24.

According to the Constitution the 10th national election will be held under the Awami League-led government between Oct 25 and Jan 24.

“And the current government will be re-elected to power,” said the Awami League leader.

The main opposition vehemently opposed to elections under the Awami League government and has threatened an intense movement if the Constitution is not amended by Oct 24 to restore the system to hold polls under a caretaker government.

“You have been making wrong decisions for the past four years,” he said addressing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. “Your advisors have been giving you bad advice, which is why your campaigns have failed.”

“That is why I am saying that your Oct 25 ultimatum will also lead to nothing.”

Nasim urged leaders and activists of Awami League to get ready for the election.

“The winds of election are already sweeping through Bangladesh. So leaders and activists cannot sit at home and reach out to the people. They will have to communicate to them about the achievements of the government. You will have to ask for votes.”

Otherwise the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami’s ‘tyranny’ will return, he warned.

“Those who are in the administration must work according to government orders”, said the former Home Minister. “Government officials must listen to the government, or else you will be sent home.”

About the ongoing unrest by garment workers demanding better wages he said, “Those who are in charge of this sector should not speak unnecessarily. The Prime Minister is working very hard on this. So don’t blabber much and put us in trouble.”
