BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday noon stressed upon holding a rally on October 25 in which she may announce the next course of action to realise the demand for caretaker government.
“Nobody has any right to stop us from holding the rally. The government must let us to hold it and it will be held surely,” the BNP chief said adding everyone has the right to organise rallies.
Dhaka city BNP on October 10 sought permission from the authorities for holding the rally either at the Suhrawardy Udyan or the Paltan ground or in front of the party office.
Khaleda reacted to the reporters while exchanging Eid greetings with people of all strata including foreign diplomats and dignitaries at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
“This is not acceptable that they (the government) will be able to hold rallies but we won’t,” she said.
This country does not belong only to the government or any individual, she said.
The day October 25 is significant because the present parliament is supposed to be dissolved the day before.
Khaleda called upon the Awami League-led government to create an environment through dialogue in order to hold a free, fair and participatory election.
She also said the government move to hold a one-sided election will not be acceptable both in the country and abroad.
We have said that we will not participate in the one-sided election, Khaleda said.
She assured of reinstating peace and order in the country if the government accepts her party’s demand for caretaker government.
Ambassadors of India, Pakistan and Netherlands, eminent personalities including writers and poets exchanged greetings with the BNP chief on the occasion on Eid-ul-Azha.
The opposition chief in the recent rallies asked the partymen to wage an anti-government movement from October 25.
The ruling party leaders have already declared that they will be on the streets from the day.
