No way to revert to CG system: Nasim

Senior Awami League leaders on Saturday fired a salvo at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for her recent remarks involving the Army, and said they will not respond to her call any more.

Addressing a rally organised by the AL-led 14-party alliance in the town, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said the Army will no longer entertain Khaleda’s request to destroy democracy and assume state power which she made twice — first in 1996 and then last week.

Speaking at the rally, AL presidium member Mohammad Nasim also criticised Khaleda for her movement demanding restoration of the caretaker government system and said there is no way for the country to revert to the annulled system.  “If voted to power, she (Khaleda) will make Bangladesh Pakistan once again.”

He alleged BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami unleashed a reign of terror in Bogra and instigated people spreading falsehood on March 3.

Nasim cautioned that BNP-Jamaat will destroy the entire country the way they did on March 3 in Bogra if they are voted to power.

In her speech, Matia Chowdhury reiterated that Khaleda will never be able to foil the trial of war criminals and their execution, no matter what conspiracies she hatches.

The Agriculture Minister vowed that the Grand Alliance government will complete the war crimes trial as per its election pledge.

Chaired by Momtaz Uddin, convener of the ruling 14-party alliance and president of the district unit AL, the rally was addressed, among others, by organising secretary of AL and agriculturist AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Abdul Mannan, MP, general secretary of Workers Party Anisur Rahman, joint secretary of JSD Shirin Akhter, central AL leader Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan and district unit AL secretary Mujibur Rahman Majnu.

Hundreds of people joined the rally at Altafunnessa School playground in the afternoon.
