No provocative speech if want dialogue: Obaidul to BNP

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and its other leaders will have to stop delivering provocative speeches if they want to hold any dialogue with the government.

“The government is ready to initiate a dialogue with BNP but its leaders will have to stop delivering provocative speeches,” he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jun at his ministry.

The minister said, “On one hand you (BNP leaders) want dialogue with the government and you’re terming the government illegal on the other… this is not the right approach. A congenial atmosphere is needed for holding a dialogue.”

About Khaleda’s remarks over operation by joint forces in Satkhira, he said Khaleda Zia as a responsible person cannot make such comments. “Such remarks are obstacle to dialogue. There could be discussions on any topic if Khaleda comes to the path of dialogue,” he said.

About the recent release of some detained BNP leaders, Quader, also the presidium member of the ruling Awami League, said the government has provided some space to BNP, and its many other leaders will be released soon.

The minister also mentioned that China and UK also want a constructive dialogue between the government and BNP.
