Taking a swipe at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for her call to engage in talks with her party for holding a fresh national election, Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim on Monday said there can be no dialogue with those who unleash violence.
“You (Khaleda) want to topple the government through a movement… then what’s the use of holding dialogue. So, question doesn’t arise for holding a dialogue with those who kill people by creating anarchy,” he said.
The AL leader said this while addressing a brief rally prior to bringing out a procession marking the 65th anniversary of the Awami League.
The colorful procession began from the Institution of Engineers and terminated at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmoni-32 in the city after parading the city’s different thoroughfares.
Sheikh Selim said BNP failed to topple the government through its movement in the last five and a half years. “If it fails again to dislodge the government, it’ll lose its existence.”
The Awami League leader warned Khaleda Zia of dire consequences if she resorts to terrorist acts in the name of any movement. ”People will break your venomous teeth if you commit subversive acts.”
BNP chairperson Khaledas Zia on Sunday threatened to wage a harsher movement after Eid if the government does not respond to their call for holding dialogue.
Selim urged the AL leaders and activists to remain alert so that there could be no infiltration of unwanted elements into the party.
Another AL presidium member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said BNP would never able to wage any movement if their party leaders and activists remain united.
Former Home Minister Shahara Khatun said people do not like Khaleda Zia’s movement as her movement is aimed at killing people. “People wouldn’t let you (Khaleda) allow you to wage movement anymore.”
Food Minister Quamrul Islam said there will be no election in the country before 2019 and there will be no dialogue either at this moment.
Awami League organising secretaries Khalid Mahmud Chowdhuty, Ahmed Hossain and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, AL Dhaka city unit general secretary Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya, among others, spoke at the programme held with Dhaka city unit acting president MA Aziz in the chair.
