Awami League lawmaker of Feni-2 constituency Nizam Uddin Hazari on Thursday alleged that sacked AL leader and former lawmaker Joynal Hazari was involved in the killing of Phulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque.
Nizam Uddin Hazari, also the general secretary of Feni district unit AL, said that the identities of the main perpetrators could be known if Joynal Hazari was interrogated in the police custody.”
He came up with the allegation at a press conference in the district town.
Nizam also denounced media reports that he might have killed Ekramul due to his enmity with Ekramul. He also termed completely untrue, fabricated and baseless the media reports regarding his alleged involvement in the killing.
In a written statement, he said that such media reports were a part of conspiracy of a certain quarter to unrest the ongoing political stability and continuing development of Feni.
A group of miscreants shot Phulgazi upazila AL president Ekramul Haque in the chest and then set fire to his car in daylight in Feni town on Tuesday morning.
At least 23 people have so far been detained for interrogation in this connection.
Some of the followers of Ekramul brought out protest procession in the district town demanding Nizam Uddin’s arrest following Ekramul’s death.
When his attention was brought regarding the issue, Nizam Uddin said: “I’ve been informed that a group of seven to eight young people chanted slogans against me. But all of them were BNP supporters.”
Feni district unit AL president Abdur Rahman and many other leaders and activists were present at the press conference.
