The High Court has rejected the state’s petition that sought withdrawal the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from the investigation into the Narayanganj seven-murder case.
A HC bench comprising of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore has passed the order on Thursday afternoon.
However, the court has modified its previous order stating that from henceforth CID would enquire instead of investigating into the incident.
The court also said if it finds any important information from CID’s report, it would direct the chief investigation officer to include the information.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam also read out the progress report of CID before the court.
On Wednesday, the state filed a petition with the High Court to withdraw the CID from the investigation into the Narayanganj seven-murder case.
In his petition, the attorney general requested the High Court bench to annul its order that engaged the CID alongside the DB police to investigate the case.
On June 4, the court rejected a similar plea placed by Mahbubey Alam. The investigation was initiated at the behest of the bench’s order of May 5.
Earlier, the bench expressed satisfaction twice over the CID progress report.
Later at a briefing, the attorney general said they had placed the petition as the Code of Criminal Procedure does not permit investigation into the same incident by two agencies.
The seven people were abducted on April 27. Later their bodies surfaced in the Shitalakkhya River. Autopsy reports said they were murdered by professionals.
